During the first part of the launch event, members of the Natural Capital Committee (NCC) provided an update of their activities during the year leading up to the publication of Defra's 25-year plan. These included publication of the "NCC advice on government's 25 year environment plan", a "How to do it: a natural capital workbook" and the "Natural Capital Committee's fifth annual report".

As well as Defra, the NCC works with other parts of government such as the Treasury, to ensure that the economic value of the UK's natural capital is correctly valued when taking decisions.

During the second part of the meeting the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Michael Gove, reinforced the government's commitment to protecting the environment, including the above mentioned 25-Year Plan.

This was followed by a Q&A session.
