Tabletop Trends: The BPA ban – comment from Luke Slater, FEA’s Technical & Policy Director
The BPA ban – comment from Luke Slater, FEA’s Technical & Policy Director
“Although the timescale for UK implementation of the BPA ban will now likely follow the successful adoption of the UK-EU SPS Agreement, expected mid-end 2027, as an industry we need to start getting ready for the inevitable ban. It will come in, and we don't want to be playing catch up, as this causes unnecessary financial pain. Preparing now keeps us aligned with the EU and in better shape for when the regulation does pass.”
Here is the current BPA ban timetable for the EU:
- single use products are banned from 20th July 2026
- repeat use food contact materials will be banned from 20th July 2027
- repeat use food contact materials for professional food preparation equipment will be banned from January 2028.
