Latest blog from The UK Trade Policy Observatory: 'Why the Customs Partnership is problematic'

In their latest blogWhy the Customs Partnership is Problematic’ Drs Michael Gasiorek and Peter Holmes discuss the New Customs Partnership – one of the government’s two preferred options for post-Brexit trade with the EU. They look at the implications for businesses and the economy in regards to tariff collection and the requisite complex tracking system as well the provision of fraud and anti-dumping mechanisms. Overall, the system does not solve the need for customs checks and a hard Irish border, whilst introducing significant procedural and financial consequences for firms.
